On November the 29th we got thumped 3-0 at home by Chelski, subsequently putting us 11 points behind the then league leaders. Even the most loyal of fans didn’t believe in the title any more. Add all of our injury misery, something which seems to be a recurring theme each season, and we were pretty much down and out. Then Van Persie got injured and things looked bleaker than ever.

Something we didn’t count, bet or thought of was a new found resilience and our super captain Fabregas turning on the style and leading us up the table. We’re playing relatively good, our defending is still a bit iffy (Campbell for Gallas) and we’re scoring plenty of goals with only one senior fit striker, namely Eduardo. No need for Monsieur Wenger to scour the market for a goal getter right? Wrong, we would be much more potent and stronger with a top notch striker, granted that such a player is hard to find in a stifled January transfer market. Wenger seems to disagree and his admission of being on the look out for a striker seems to be a smokescreen to me. He’s recently admitted that he’s reconsidering his earlier comments with the soon to be fit again Bendtner ready to be thrown in the fray in a couple of weeks. Add that to the fact that Rosicky and Walcott are back to full fitness and one would seem be a fool disagree with Wenger. Walcott by the way made his first appearance since 27 December on this brisk but ever so sweet night at the Emirates.

Cesc Fabregas celebrates scoring for Arsenal

To cut a long story short WE’RE TOP OF THE TABLE AGAIN SINCE FUCK KNOWS WHEN joy oh sweet joy. Some may compare it to the 2007/2008 season but the main discrepancy is that, in that season we were competing for the title from the get go occupying the top 2 for a considerable period before we ran out of steam. This season we seem stronger, faster and better being able to grind out results against the grittiest teams in the league. Fabregas is playing the best football of his career, combining assists with goals, resulting in making the whole team play better.

I’m not getting carried away but i’ve got an inkling that it might be our season. I think I’m going to write Le Prof a letter, pleading with him to buy a striker to temporarily fill the void that the injury to our star forward Van Persie left. Personally I don’t think any of our strikers are good enough to play along side Robin, Bendtner has got a lot to prove and might come right, he’s definitely got the talent, Vela is still too young and the premiership might not be suited to his talent. I doubt if Eduardo will ever find the form he displayed before his horrific injury. That leaves us with Walcott, I’ve got no particular feeling about this player, he could become a true great but at times he seems more likely to become a decent to good player. His occasional flashes of brilliance promise more but we al know that the English media hype has killed many a player!

In Wenger we trust????????
