photo Arena of Gladiators

When I was young I had many a dream about being a professional football player. When I started fantasizing, scenes of the utmost grandeur would occur. Last minute bicycle kicks to decide world cup finals, crowds chanting my name, teams starting bidding wars to get me and the famous deciding penalty to win a trophy taken by me of course. All of that usually took place in my back yard where I spent hours and hours playing football.

When that dream faded I quickly moved on to the next thing due to my childhood enthusiasm. But it still lingers around somewhere in my head and usually comes out when watching football. As some of you might know I work/intern at Adidas (digital marketing) and working at such an esteemed company brings along some rather amazing perils. So when I received an email in my inbox asking if I wanted to join in a kick about at the Amsterdam Arena home of Ajax one the most legendary and successful clubs in the world I couldn’t hide my enthusiasm and let out a shriek of joy. Totally buzzing and almost incapable of doing anything constructive for the rest of the day i embarked on another exceptional day dream of epic proportions.

Picture this, I’m standing in the changing room putting on my gear and I feel somewhat like a gladiator ready to battle in a Roman arena. Absolutely bustling, full of adrenaline, stomping to get on to the pitch and then you take those epic steps up to the ground and you see the magnitude and grandness of the location where you find yourself in. Totally in Awe! Gaping around looking up, down, left and to the right of me. I can hear the immense roar of the crowd and people chanting me on. You don’t want to imagine what went through me when we starting playing on an AstroTurf pitch they set up for us behind the goal on the south side of the stadium. I took some pictures on my iPhone to try to capture the awesomeness that I was fortunate enough to experience. Enjoy!
