00a Style Influence: Alain Delon

Once in a while you read a very epic interview one you still think about two years after. It was an extremely in depth article on Alain Delon, what made him tick, exist and what and who exactly capitulated him into extreme stardom in the 60’s. Which is by the way my favourite decade for style. And touching on that matter, I would prefer to delve in to his style rather than his personality because he is too complex of a man to do so without writing a full on essay. Although do note that his personality evidently attributed to his immaculate sense of style and his at times over the top arrogance might have emphasized it.

So how does a man that at times barely wore clothes still leave such an impression? First and foremost because he represented the Saint Tropez lifestyle that celebrities nowadays still try to emulate. He was the poster boy of the Riviera and the laissez-faire fashion style that dominated at the time. A master of the unbuttoned and rolled up shirt, a trait that makes most men look simply foolish, was pulled off effortlessly by him. I’m perpetually waiting for the summer to exhibit everything that I’ve learnt about style and to wear the items that warm my heart just by the thought of it in the freezing icy Amsterdam wind.

A defining reason to why the style of old men is such a huge influence right now, is the way they carry themselves. An air of nonchalance surrounds them, a characteristic Alain Delon displayed at a very young age. A ravishing womanizer in the truest sense of the word and on top of that a style icon, which is surely a deadly combination, leaving his personality aside. But to be seen as a style icon in an era that is known for its extreme elegance and which was littered with stylish celebrities is quite an accomplishment. One of Christian Dior’s most successful fragrances was relaunched with an ad campaign bearing a picture of Delon taken in 1966. The wisdom of doing such a thing can be questioned but what has to be noted is that the fashion world still holds him in high esteem and rightly so.

As you might note the sunlight has upped its stamina so its only fitting that you present yourself in such a manner that the beaming of sunlight has a stylish surface to beat upon. To channel Delon with your own twist would be a wise option and one that I will surely pursue. Therefore I leave you with a few pictures to hopefully inspire you.
